Privacy Policy

Historical Fencing Research Ltd (hereafter “we”) uses both personal data and depersonalised data as part of managing our funding, communicating with our supporters and stakeholders, and as part of our research. This page sets out our general approach to Data Privacy – specific projects may have their own privacy policies that will extend or adapt the general provisions set out here.

How we use personal data

We use personal data for a number of reasons directly related to managing our organisation. These purposes include:

  • Raising funds to support our work, and keeping any backers or contributors informed of progress
  • Informing interested parties about our research projects, products and services
  • Selling products directly to customers
  • Research where individual views are required
  • Managing contributors to our projects

Personal details include:

  • Name & Contact details
  • Details of financial transactions* and purchases
  • Personal communications

* Note: we do not store card details directly as this is handled by out payment provide

Research Data

Our policy is to not use personal data in research where possible. Where research is derived from personal data, we will put in place measures to minimise and/or anonymise this data as far as reasonable.

Personal data collected for research and data collected for managing the organisation will be kept separately. As a rule, research data will be restricted to only those working on the research project. Research projects that use personal data will have their own privacy policy.

Sharing Data

We share data with certain third parties and systems to manage the above:

  • Stripe: Our payments platform, which handles all financial transactions
  • Mailchimp: Our email platform, which manages emailing different groups

We may also partner with other organisations as part of research projects. Where this happens, we will endeavour to avoid sending or receiving personal data. If personal data needs to be shared as part of the work, we will inform the data subjects prior to sharing and give them the option to opt out.

Information Rights & Disputes

The above details are necessary for the safe and efficient managing of our organisation. If any part of it gives you concern you may contact us to discuss it and we will consider if a change is warranted.
